Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource (ANSIR)

Director: B.L.N. Kennett

A major reorganisation of the ANSIR Major National Research Facility took place at mid year. Since 2002 July 1 the Australian National University has taken over the full set of ANSIR assets formerly held at Geoscience Australia in addition to the portable instrument component already held at RSES. The adminstration of the MNRF has also moved to RSES.

In consequence Professor B.L.N. Kennett has become the Director of ANSIR. Mr Tim Barton from Gesocience Austrilia is the Executive Officer and provide the main oversight of the reflection capability. Dr Bruce Goleby, Geoscience Australia, has become Deputy Director.

The major use of the portable instruments this year has been in the TIGGER experiment in Tasmania and southern Victoria.
Since July two reflection surveys have been carried out:
+  at the St. Ives gold mine in Western Australia
+  in the Batten Trough region, Northern Territory

A number of smaller experiments have exploited the minivibrator capability.

Further details of the MNRF and its activities can be found at the ANSIR website.
